Recycle, Repurpose or Reuse your old hot yoga mat.
For when you’re having a clear-out and come across your old hot yoga mats… Here’s some recycling ideas from Infinity Hot Yoga.
If you’re anything like me you probably have one or 2 … old, tired or unused yoga mats lying around and it just doesn’t feel right to throw them out, and it’s hard to know which bin to put them into anyway, so here’s some ideas that might inspire you to be a bit more green while also contributing to the circular economy….
Pass It On
If your old mat is in good condition and just too good to chop up, give it a wash and then…
1. Sell it - if it’s a good one that you just don’t need any more then maybe you could sell it, just place a post on your SM pages and see what happens…
2. Donate it – get that feel good factor, by donating your mat to the local charity shop, to a local school or sports group, or any good cause that you support.
Recycle or Repurpose
If it’s old and tatty then repurpose it by chopping it up and make it into useful household aids, and of course, I recommend that you wash your old smelly hot yoga mat first.
3. Use it as a car boot liner to prevent groceries and other cargo from sliding around the place.
4. If it is your car boot liner then you already have it with you, so you can use it as your picnic or beach mat on those summer days, or as padding to sit on if you’re watching a match.
5. Into gardening? Then chop it up and bind the edges with twine, or glue 3, 4 or even 5 layers together to make a nice colourful kneeling mat for when you are exercising your green fingers.
6. Another green fingered use is to cut the mat into strips and use it in the bottom of pots as drainage, or if indoors cut to shape and place under your pots to protect surfaces.
7. If you’re feeling really creative and want a fun rainy-day activity to do with your kids… make toys, cut circles out and make frisbees, cut holes and create masks, hats, costumes. Cut into letters, numbers, use cookie cutters as templates and cut out shapes to make colourful mobiles or Christmas decorations (how many old mats do you have???🤔) Careful they don’t chop up your new yoga mat when you’re not looking 🙈!
8. Practical applications…cut to size, and glue layers if needed to make Mouse Mats, Coasters, or liners for tray-tops, kitchen shelves or drawers.
9. If you have an old grippy mat they are great for using under rugs to prevent slipping, also cut to size and use non toxic glue (of course) and use as furniture pads to protect wooden or tiled floors. They also make great grippers for opening Jars.
10. If you have a pet or pets, then old mats make great travel crate liners. If you have sloppy eaters and drinkers then cut the mat to size and use as drip catchers and non-slip mats under food and water bowls.
To be fair, the list could go on & on, the only limits being your imagination and the number of old hot yoga mats that you have to recycle - repurpose or reuse …
So, if you feel inspired, and do decide to repurpose your old hot yoga mat then feel free to send us a pic. If you do, we’ll share it on our SM pages. Or if you post it on your pages don’t forget to tag us @weareinfinity.ie and we will share, because sharing is caring….
